According to André Girard, there are no technologies in Québec. There is also a glaring need to improve talent recognition methods and to promote the learning of new technologies. After providing his own definition of what constitutes an actual technology, he showed us how our society must revisit its priorities in terms of research and development in order to remain competitive in the telecommunications industry, more specifically as it relates to innovation in the field of fibre optics.
“There is nothing better than fibre optic technology. No matter how hard we try, we will never surpass fibre optics in terms of throughput, distance and speed. Imagine producing a printed circuit board assembly that transmits light within the assembly. [...] This technology is being developed in Japan as we speak and is designed to provide transmission rates of up to 40GB per second, or allow 625,000 parallel telephone conversations to be held simultaneously.”
