“PIXY – it’s video-lego !”
With Pixy, we bypass the limitations of the classic video format (rectangular and flat). The concept is to be able to create a video surface uniquely customized to specific needs: either (for example) a very large surface or a very small surface. The electroluminescent paper that is used enables the exploration of volume through the elaboration of physical structures, by using the pixels on the space. The pixels of Pixy are physical objects which light up when electrical tension is applied to them. Each square is autonomous and corresponds to one pixel; its variable luminescence permits the use of 256 levels of gray, and all the squares together define the resolution, creating a matrix which enables the distribution of an animated image.
At the same time, there is a reflection on the undeniable relationship between the container and the content, particularly for art collectors. the position taken of using low-definition video creates an emotional relationship. The emotional relationship reactivates the part of the brain which “sleeps” more and more often with the use of high-definition video technology.
