René Barsalo discussed the powerful effect that networked spaces can have on people’s lives — such as he witnessed during artistic experiments with the Telepresence system, which creates a feeling of immediacy through a life-size, real-time video interface. He also described the latest research project at the SAT, entitled [propulse]ART, which aims to use ultra-wide-band networks to link different cultural venues and public spaces around the world.
« Instead of leaving cultural venues empty during the day, we can fill them up for networked conferences, citizen groups, business meetings or educational purposes. At night, audiences can enjoy cultural performances enhanced by artists participating over the network. We can build up a stronger community life — in the cities, in the regions and between the two. »
