“The successful implementation of mobile technologies depends primarily on the quality of transcoding and adaptation technologies for multimedia formats; and these technologies are still in the development phase.” Stéphane Coulombe (Software and IT Engineering Department at École de Technologie Supérieure (ETS)) revealed the incredible number of multimedia formats, as well as network and broadcast platforms, that must be processed in order to provide appropriate transmission transparency to users. In fact, the impressive number of telephone models and display formats available would seem to indicate that content designers will be faced with an even more complex environment than was experienced during the browser wars in the late nineties.
