About this demo-conference

After a quick look back at the history of matte painting as a profession in the film industry, Mathieu Raynault, the founder of Rodeo FX, walks us through some of his epic projects: Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, The Matrix. He then shows us just how he digitally paints and disassembles the backgrounds before passing his fixed images on to the animation team.

“Everything’s now done with computers — it’s very, very complex. But the skills of the individual artists are still crucial. You can’t ignore the importance of craftsmanship.”
