“The distributors have to make compromises, we’re not sending up a different satellite each time the technology evolves”

High definition (HD) television brings changes the way images are framed. We’re moving from a square format to a rectangular format. This trend towards panoramic images provides viewers with a better perception of information on the screen. Paradoxically, the clean images offered by HD often look too cold and too realistic. The proof is in the numbers .. only 1 in 10 owns an HD television. Thus, a period of transition is indispensable for the distributors of television content, who must make compromises in order to best satisfy their clients, whether equipped with HD or not. Another paradox in the arrival of HD : is it (the technology) necessary in an era of multiple channels and a range of tools supporting visual content (cellphones, i-Pods, viewers, etc.) ?
