[In French]
By way of introduction, Daniel Drouet reminded us of the context (a technology for creating local networks) in which WiFi has been positioned alongside the cell phone and other mobile technologies and has continued to evolve, thanks to (amongst others) community-based groups like Ile-sans-Fil.
«...The situation is evolving rightnow, and much progress has been made on screens. We see lots of Smart phones appearing equipped with WiFi and which are changing the way WiFi is used. We will be able to use it on the street corner to seek an address…»
North America has witnessed the birth since 2003 of various initiatives and models of “municipal” WiFi. Ile Sans Fil, which has been growing constantly over the past five years, is positioned as an innovative provider … its specialized Wifidog platform is now used on four continents, and in thirty countries. This unique public – community partnership between the city of Montreal and Ile Sans fil will give rise to the creation of new access points and a range of services offered to citizens.
«… with the Internet culture … we share, we offer, we publish, we want people to use what we have created, we want them to inter-connect»
