Training for military and civil applications continually demands increasingly realistic usable & interactive virtual worlds. Akin to the “next generation” of game consoles and expectations of high fidelity visuals, trainees expect enriched training experiences both visual fidelity and more importantly behavioral fidelity. All depending on the trainer visual fidelity may be interpreted to be photorealism or a close representation to simulated imagery such as radar, sonar, a cameras view or appropriate gestures, visual queues, and crowd assemblies. A correlation between synthetic environments and subscribers to these environments needs to exist. For example many training applications include live and virtual elements were the trainee is evaluated against to obtain his measure of effectiveness. Due to the advances in technology increasing realism has become a requirement. How can we begin to meet these challenges? Are the requirements for training for visualization different then for entertainment?
Presagis Canada Inc. is a new independent subsidiary from CAE Inc. Eric Simon took the challenge to productize CAE technology and joined Presagis at its creation a year ago as Director of Research and Technology, and now as Director Product Management for Simulation. He has over twenty-two years of experience as Chief Software Architect at CAE in real time modelling and simulation distributed architecture for Military and Defence Sectors. His experience covers military and commercial flight simulators and mainly their associated virtual tactical environments; LAN/WAN networked simulation; and other simulation including control systems.
Cory Kumm is the Human Simulation Product Manager for Presagis. Cory has worked for over 10 years in modeling and simulation for the computer graphics industry and for 3 years in the training and simulation industry. He has worked professionally as a technical director for the film industry having produced special effects for a number of years, an educator throughout his career and is one of the inventors of the AI.implant product a commercial artificial intelligence middleware.
