Île Sans Fil, the non-profit community group that provides free public WiFi in Montreal, is on the verge of signing an agreement with the municipal government. This partnership will be quite unlike anything tried before — how did it come about, and how will it change the lives of Montrealers? The demo-conference will give us a concise look at this exciting, home-grown project in community networking.

An engineer by training, Daniel Drouet has worked as a consultant and educator in the telecom field for operators, regulatory bodies and corporations in North America, Africa and the Near East. His expertise covers such areas as evaluating the impact of new technology on current business models. These days, he’s devoting himself to designing applications for mobile devices and the Web.

He recently co-founded Montreal Start Up, a venture capital outfit that funds new and innovative companies based in the city.

He has been with île sans fil since the beginning and now serves as its chairman.
