Moments: Performance and Broadcast Streaming

View the presentation [In French]

Since 1999, OBORO has been producing a series of broadcast streaming events entitled ‘MOMENTS’. This series of networking events using on-line technologies has evolved from a simple gesture game to a stimulating and mesmerizing, improvisational, live performance between artists in Montreal and Toronto using ‘broadcast streaming’ as a medium. MOMENTS has now evolved as a event which has pushed the artistic boundaries and experiences of those who practice a variety of classical art forms from dance to painting. Not only has this event had an impact OBORO’s broadcast streaming research, it has also had an impact on the live audience and most profoundly on the artistic practice and the performance experience of each of the artists. Cheryl Sim will explain the history and artistic evolution of the project. Aaron Pollard will discuss the technical aspects and challenges.

Founded in 1982, OBORO is an artist centre that favours the development of art practices locally, nationally and internationally. OBORO’s sphere of activity encompasses visual and media arts, new technologies, new performing arts and emerging practices. OBORO’s mandate is to support creation in various cultural practices; to encourage innovation, experimentation, the exchange of ideas and the sharing of knowledge; to set up exhibitions, residencies, publications, conferences, performances, workshops, network projects, as well as research, production and training activities.
